Abstract:

The Ny-Ålesund area in which China’s Arctic Yellow River Station is located is an international research community in Svalbard, Norway. To better carry out Chinese Arctic Research Expeditions and integrate more deeply into Ny-Ålesund’s flagship projects, it is necessary to systematically understand the local research and monitoring status, as well as the flagship project management in Ny-Ålesund. For these purposes, this paper reviewed the current situation and trends of the long-term monitoring activities, the plans of the flagship projects, the condition of infrastructure and shared research resources, and project management in Ny-Ålesund. It also discussed the impact of the adjustment of Ny-Ålesund’s local policies on Chinese Arctic Research Expeditions in recent years. The study was intended to support the selection of scientific research projects for China’s Arctic station and its integration with the Ny-Ålesund flagship projects.
