Abstract:

The relativity of the diet of skuas (south polar skua, brown skua, and their hybrid) with environmental quality around Antarctic stations was investigated during the years of 2001—2003 in Fildes Peninsula, King George Island, Antarctica. The results show that skuas food structure was strongly effected by station waste. Food components could be an important information carrier both of animals ecological habit and environmental quality. Therefore, there is possibility that of using skua as an designative species for environmental estimation around Antarctic stations.
