Abstract:

This paper reported the distribution of chlorophyll a and nutrient concentrations in the Great Wall Bay and adjacent sea, Antarctica, during the 16th Chinese Antarctic Expedition (Dec. 1999 March 2000), and analyzed the cause of the subaltern of chlorophyll a maxima(SCM). The results showed that the nutrient concentrations were high during the investigation period, and the average values of nitrate, nitrite, phosphate and ammonium were 2.177, 0.353 , 1.899 and 1.990μmol/L, respectively. It revealed the enrichment of the nutrient in this water area. The SCM was significant. The depths of the SCM were between 5 and 10m depth and increased with the water depths. The study also showed that the positive relationship between chlorophyll a and nitrite concentrations.
