Abstract:

The study reported major ion concentrations in snow pits and river water samples collected from Longyearbyen area,Svalbard in 2007. Comparison with major ion data of snow pits collected in 1996 showed that the concentrations of the most ions in the snow pits of 2007 are much lower than those of 1996. Ionic concentrations of river water are dominated by continental source, which is contributed by the rock corrasion when the melt water flows through the bedrocks.
